Beggar and Baby

Pope Benedict XVI during general auditionImage via WikipediaI have always been proud, as a Secular Franciscan, in the fact that St. Francis is regarded as the one person who gave intense spiritual significance to Christmas. Now, even Pope Benedict XVI in his reflections on Christmas reiterated this fact. Francis knew that the truth comes in "weakness" so it is logical that God should show up in history as a homeless child. He is not here to conquer men but to conquer sin and evil. The Pope tells us that the Roman holiday of "sol invictus", (the sun unconquered) which Christmas replaced, was the old pagan light. Baby Jesus is now the "new Son" and the new, true light. JMJ. Mick
